There are several admission schemes for university student candidates to apply for the Faculty of Geography in UGM. Information about future student intake is available at UM UGM website (http://ugm.ac.id/id/pendaftaran). There are four admission schemes to the faculty, namely Seleksi Nasional Masuk Perguruan Tinggi Negeri (SNMPTN)—the selection is based on the academic reports during senior high school, Seleksi Bersama Masuk Perguruan Tinggi Negeri (SBMPTN)—a written test-based selection, Ujian Masuk-UGM (UM-UGM)—an independent written test-based selection, and Penjaringan Bibit Unggul (PBU)—an achievement-based admission.

  • SNMPTN
  • The Ministry of Education and Culture through the Indonesian Directorate General of Higher Education annually administers a nationwide entrance examination to universities in Indonesia, including UGM, for both public and private senior high school graduates from all over Indonesia as well as Indonesian senior high school graduates abroad. Every faculty has different admission requirements. However, the general selection criteria are based on the academic performance and the non-academic achievement of the senior high school graduates.

  • SBMPTN
  • This nationwide scheme is a written examination organized by the Board of Indonesian University Rectors. The applicants are those who graduated from senior high schools maximum two years before the date of entrance examination. SBMPTN aims to measure the applicants’ general ability that is believed to be the capitals for accomplishments during their studies at the university, such as academic potentials and basic knowledge in the fields of natural sciences and technology and/or social sciences and humanity.

  • UM-UGM
  • UGM self-organizes a written test scheme called UM-UGM. It aims to provide opportunities for high school students graduated in the last three years or from other similar accredited examinations. The applicants have to pass a general check-up for the health condition requirements set by every study program of their choice. In this scheme, they may choose two or three different study programs according to the examination clusters, i.e., (i) science and technology cluster; (ii) social and humanity cluster; and (iii) the combination of clusters (i) and (ii). The written test consists of general basic knowledge, academic test, social and humanity test, and science and technology test.

  • PBU
  • The applicants can choose one of the four PBU schemes,, namely Admission Test for Accomplished Students from low-income families (Penjaringan Bibit Unggul Tidak Mampu―PBUTM), with national and/or international academic achievements (Penjaringan Bibit Unggul Berprestasi―PBUB), with achievements in sport and art (Penjaringan Bibit Olah Raga dan Seni―PBOS), or through partnership program (Penjaringan Bibit Unggul Khusus― PBUK).

    • PBUTM. This scheme is eligible for highly accomplished senior high school students from low-income families. The eligibility also includes cognitive competence level in every semester for every subject offered in senior high schools and excellent academic rank, i.e., the best 40% in their class for at least five semesters. PBUTM consists of administrative selection process and academic The accepted applicants will receive an exemption from 8-semester tuition fee.
    • PBUB. Senior high school students who have won the Science and Technology Olympiads at the national level or were the finalists of international Olympiads organized by reputable and recognized institutions are eligible for this admission scheme. PBUB has the selection methods and admission requirements as PBUTM.
    • PBOS. This admission scheme is for senior high school students who won provincial and national sport and art events or were the finalists of any similar international events. PBOS consists of administrative selection process, academic test, basic knowledge test, and skill evaluation.
    • PBUK (Khusus) – This scheme is for senior high school students with excellent academic achievements and recommendations by their local governments, institutions, foundations, or companies. It consists of administrative evaluations and tests of academic potentials, basic knowledge, and skill.
